Action Step 1. Pray with a pencil.
As part of our "Celebrate Jesus" Spiritual Adventure, there are five weekly action steps to assist you in living out God’s Word and becoming more like Jesus. Action Step 1 is called “Pray with a pencil.” Each week of the Adventure, listen for God’s direction in solitude and in prayer, and then jot down your thoughts.
“At daybreak Jesus went out to a solitary place” (Luke 4:42a).
Prayer was not just pouring out his heart to God, it was also receiving inspiration as God poured his heart into Jesus. Action Step 1 tells us to pray with a pencil. Jot down words, phrases, and names that come to you. This makes every day an exciting spiritual adventure! Ask God to give you a breakthrough idea for your work, your family, your neighborhood, and your church or Sunday school class. Let half (or even two-thirds) of this prayer time be LISTENING. Ask God to SHOW ME evidence of Your glory, and indications of what you personally need to hear. Pray with a pencil by writing down what seems to bubble up. Then revisit that page later in the day, later in the week, or even a month or more from now. Then, ask God for further insights, direction and guidance.
