Action Step 3. Celebrate people, and Say So

It's been said that we should say THREE positive things for every one positive comment that we utter. However, there are many people whose everyday living hardly ever includes ONE uplifting, affirming word.

Make this commitment. Each day for 50 days, say something affirming to someone. It may be a good idea to carry a blank index card with you, as a running tally. Write down the name of that person, or the connection you have with him or her (police officer, check-out clerk, neighbor across the street, politician, garbage truck driver, school teacher, pizza deliverer, member of your own family. Think how many people the person at a fast food drive thru speaks to in one work shift, but how few people make eye contact, let alone get a heartfelt word of encouragement.

Thank someone. Inspire and encourage them, not with a spiritual diatribe, but a comment which fits their need and their agenda. Look for the positive potential in their lives, and tell that person that you noticed. Celebrate who they are and who they can become.
